Collections System Manager
$65-70k 5% bonus

Oversees the operation and maintenance of the interceptor sewer facilities and equipment and deep tunnel project. Responsible for continuous operation of all sewer system facilities, which includes emergency repairs, 24 hours/day. As the department manager responsibilities include regulatory compliance, safety, customer requests, budget performance, and relationships with public officials, commission and other public entities.
Direct Reports: 2 System Operators.
Budget: Less than $1M annually
Establishes and monitors overall business plan for Conveyance including goals and budget.
Works with supervisors in executing the business plan.
Oversees the operations of the conveyance system and supervises Operators
Oversees the preparation of the Material Capital Repair and Replacement (MCRR) projects for conveyance.
Provides design reviews of intercepting sewers, connections to intercepting sewers, and watercourse improvements, pump stations, diversion chambers, and inline system.
Implements quality improvements in the operations of the assets.
Responsible for preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance program for interceptor sewer facilities and equipment, and for the maintenance of complex safety equipment.
Implements CMOM program for the collection system.
Responsible for continuous operation of all sewer system facilities, which include emergency repairs 24 hours/day. Must be able to respond to emergency calls as needed and work extended hours to accommodate site needs.
Monitors weather forecasts as well as current precipitation events. Maintains communication with system and plant operators during theses events to monitor operation of the Deep Tunnel and the interceptor sewer system.
Responds to complaint calls regarding sewers, establishes personal contact with complainant and resolves all disagreements.
Makes decisions regarding work assignments and acts immediately to prevent equipment failure or negative impact in emergency situations.
Administers management policies and directives, trains and evaluates subordinate staff including administering discipline as required.
Responsible for department cost performance including budget preparation.
Supports Veolia Water's commitment to safety and the environment by complying with the programs regarding health, safety and protection of the environment. Demonstrates safe work practices, takes part in safety meetings as required, and advises the supervisor of any non-conforming conditions.
College Degree in related area (i.e. Engineering, Maintenance, Management). A combination of education and on-the-job skills in a complementary area may be considered.
An advanced degree specializing in the management of underground infrastructure including the hydraulics of collection systems is preferred.
Requires technical skills and knowledge of the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the sewage collection system, deep tunnel, pump stations and all related facilities.
Must have working knowledge of the skills required of the electrical, mechanical, steam fitting, plumbing, machinist, and other various construction and building trades as related to the operation and maintenance of the sewage collection system, deep tunnel, and related facilities.
Requires superior interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with client, public, employees, etc.
Excellent management and organizational skills required.
Must possess superior organizational skills and be able to plan, prioritize and work simultaneously on several projects.
Ability to operate within a team atmosphere required
Ability to shift priorities frequently and effectively perform under pressure required
Valid Michigan Driver's License.
Experience with managing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance within a computerized maintenance management system including purchasing and inventory is desired.
Experience in multi-craft union environment desired
Ten years of progressive experience in the maintenance and operation of a wastewater collection system, pumping and interceptor systems. Knowledge of deep storage/tunnel systems preferred.
Minimum of five years prior management or supervisor experience.
